The ICC Men’s World Cup 2023 is set to begin on October 5 with the 2019 finalists meeting once again at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Along with the schedule, ICC also started the first full Trophy Tour since 2019.
The International Cricket Council went above and beyond as they decided to launch the Trophy Tour by sending the coveted cup into space. The trophy is 60 centimetres in height and weighs 11 kg. The base of the trophy has an inscription of the names of the previous winners.
The ICC Trophy was sent into space attached to a bespoke stratospheric balloon, while 4K cameras took stunning shots of the trophy sitting on the edge of the Earth’s atmosphere.
The Men’s World Cup trophy started its 100 days tour of 18 countries on Tuesday. One million fans will be able to have their personal interactions with the coveted silverware.

The coveted cricket trophy was first hosted in 1975 in a 60-over format. The cup was sponsored by Prudential Life Insurance, hence it was called the Prudential World Cup. The first three World Cups (1975, 1979 and 1983) were known as Prudential World Cups. The 1987 World Cup was the first one to be held in the 50-over format. It was jointly hosted by India and Pakistan and sponsored by Reliance Group, hence it was named Reliance World Cup 1987.
The 1992 instalment of the tournament was sponsored by Benson and Hedges as it was jointly hosted by Australia and New Zealand. The 1996 instalment was once again jointly hosted by India and Pakistan. The name of the cup was Wills World Cup 1996, which was won by Sri Lanka.
The 1999 cricket World Cup was the first one to be called ICC World Cup and it has been called by this name since.
