During the 18th match of the 2019 IPL between Chennai Super Kings and Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings), CSK posted a total of 160 runs and put up a great performance with the ball. However, Deepak Chahar's errors while bowling his fourth over made Dhoni angry.

Deepak Chahar’s first delivery was a no-ball which was hit for a boundary, and the following delivery was also a no-ball, costing the team two additional runs. MS Dhoni came to the bowler’s marker and scolded Chahar for his careless bowling.

In a CSK vs RR IPL match in 2019, viewers saw a rare outburst from the usually calm and composed MS Dhoni. After the Royals set a target of 151, Dhoni played a crucial knock of 58 off 43 balls. However, he was dismissed in the last over, leaving CSK needing 8 runs off 3 balls.

RR bowler Ben Stokes delivered a slower full toss to Mitchell Santner, which was initially signalled as a no-ball by the on-field umpire. However, the leg-umpire overruled the decision and deemed it a legal ball, causing confusion and frustration for Dhoni and the CSK camp.

MS Dhoni rushed onto the field and engaged in an argument with both umpires, urging them to review the decision through the third umpire. However, the umpires refused, and the match continued.

During IPL 2022, MS Dhoni, also called Thala, by CSK fans lost his cool during a match with SRH. The incident took place in the final over when CSK bowler Mukesh Choudhary bowled a leg-side delivery to SRH batter Nicholas Pooran.

The delivery was declared a wide, and MS Dhoni was seen furiously gesticulating towards the fielders on the offside, indicating that Choudhary should have gone wide of off-stump in his delivery.

In a 2021 MI vs CSK IPL match, MI's Saurabh Tiwary played an unconventional scoop. Anticipating the catch, Dhoni made a darting run but he failed to pluck the ball as the CSK skipper was involved in a mix-up with Bravo, and the both almost collided.

Dhoni was clearly unhappy with the missed opportunity. While Dhoni went on to collect the ball, he made himself very clear of what he thought of the situation. The miss did not cost CSK much as they ended up winning the match.

In IPL 2023 CSK vs RR match, Dhoni tried to make a quick direct hit at the non-strikers’ end in the 16th over. The batter was easily able to get to the crease as bowler Matheesha Pathirana mistakenly stopped Dhoni's throw. MS Dhoni irritatedly indicated to the young bowler that he should have left the ball alone after instantly expressing his dismay.
