Benchmark indices on Tuesday gave up their gains as losses in consumer and state-owned lenders countered gains in metals and financials. Headline index NSE Nifty scaled an all-time high of 22,768 during intraday trade. It eventually closed 24 points or 0.1% down at 22,643-level. During the day, the 30-share BSE pack soared to its lifetime high of 75,124. Later, it settled 59 points or 0.08% lower at 74,684. Top gainers on the Nifty50 platform were Apollo Hospitals, Hindalco Industries, ICICI Bank, Infosys and Bajaj Finserv while losers included Titan, Hero MotoCorp, Coal India, Reliance Industries and Asian Paints.
Stocks such as HDFC Bank, Infosys, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank and Tata Steel were most active on NSE today, in terms of value. ONGC was the other buzzing stock on the platform, in terms of volume.
In the NSE 500 index, shares of Hindustan Zinc Ltd emerged as the top gainer. The stock zoomed 15.68% on NSE today to settle at Rs 398.4. At this price, the company commanded a market capitalisation (m-cap) of Rs 1,68,336.7 crore.
Motilal Oswal Financial Services Ltd shares soared 11.04% to close at Rs 2,097.35. The company's m-cap came at Rs 31,232.7 crore.
Sterlite Technologies Ltd shares surged 10.91% to close at Rs 141.25. The company's m-cap stood at Rs 5,637.5 crore. Anand Rathi Wealth, Hindustan Copper, Castrol India and Shree Renuka Sugars were some of the other gainers on NSE 500.
Shares of Godfrey Phillips India Ltd fell sharply today. The stock dived 4.48% to close at Rs 3,126.05 on Tuesday. At this price, the company's market cap stood at Rs 16,253.6 crore.
Schneider Electric Infrastructure Ltd shares slipped 3.4% to end the session at Rs 791.7. The company's m-cap came at Rs 18,929.9 crore today. Mahindra Lifespace Developers, Bosch, SJVN and Angel One were among some other laggards on NSE 500.
