Benchmark indices plunged on Monday, dragged by state-owned banks, media, metal and energy stocks. Headline index NSE Nifty closed at 21,616.05-level. Top losers on the Nifty50 platform were Coal India, Hero MotoCorp, BPCL, ONGC and Tata Steel while gainers included Dr Reddy's Labs, Apollo Hospitals, Divi's Labs, Wipro and HCL Tech.
Stocks such as HDFC Bank, SBI, Wipro, Reliance Industries and Axis Bank were most active on NSE today, in terms of value. Tata Steel, ONGC and Coal India were the other buzzing stocks on the platform, in terms of volume.
Shares of SJVN Ltd emerged as the top loser in the NSE 500 index. The stock cracked 20% on NSE today to settle at Rs 112.45. At this price, the company commanded a market capitalisation (m-cap) of Rs 44,190.6 crore.
NHPC Ltd shares slumped 15.84% to close at Rs 81. The state-run firm's m-cap came at Rs 81,364.8 crore.
NLC India Ltd shares tanked 15.41% to close at Rs 213.75. The company's m-cap stood at Rs 29,639.4 crore.
Shares of Jubilant Ingrevia rose sharply today. The stock surged 12.11% to close at Rs 483.2 on Monday. At this price, the company's market cap stood at Rs 7,696.5 crore.
Godfrey Phillips India Ltd shares jumped 8.73% to end the session at Rs 2,581.8. The company's m-cap came at Rs 13,423.8 crore today.
