Benchmark indices settled at record highs on Monday, led by sharp gains in financials, banks and energy stocks. Headline index NSE Nifty closed at 20,687-level. Top gainers on the Nifty50 platform were Eicher Motors, Adani Enterprises, Adani Ports, BPCL and ICICI Bank while losers included HDFC Life, Britannia, HCL Tech, Sun Pharma and Wipro.
Stocks such as HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Reliance Industries, Axis Bank and SBI were most active on NSE today, in terms of value. Tata Steel, ONGC and PowerGrid were the other buzzing stocks on the platform, in terms of volume.
Shares of Gujarat State Fertilizer & Chemicals Ltd (GSFC) emerged as the top gainer in the NSE 500 index. The stock zoomed 11.15% on NSE today to settle at Rs 215.3.
Cyient Ltd shares jumped 9.54% to close at Rs 2,189.15. At this price, the company commanded a market capitalisation (m-cap) of Rs 24,240.8 crore.
Shares of Adani Green Energy surged 9.47% to end at Rs 1,123.75 today. The company's market cap came at Rs 178,005.7 crore.
Shares of Central Bank of India gained 9.03% today to settle at Rs 48.3. The company's market valuation stood at Rs 41,928.9 crore.
Shares of Whirlpool of India fell sharply today. The stock dived 6.71% to close at Rs 1,321.05 on Monday.
KNR Constructions shares slipped 5.51% to end the session at Rs 269.85. The company's m-cap stood at Rs 7,589.1 crore today.
Shares of Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd were also among top losers in the NSE 500 pack today. The stock lost 4% to settle at Rs 255.9. The company's market cap was at Rs 24,579.7 crore.
"Nifty may take a breather around the 20,750 zone and expect the 20,300-20,400 zone to act as a cushion in case of any profit taking. We recommend staying with the trend and utilising a dip or consolidation as a buying opportunity," said Ajit Mishra, SVP - Technical Research at Religare Broking.
