Benchmark indices settled slightly higher on Wednesday, led by gains in energy, consumer good and automobile stocks. Headline index NSE Nifty closed at 21,839-level. The 30-share BSE pack rose 90 points or 0.12% to end at 72,102. Top gainers on the Nifty50 platform were Eicher Motors, Maruti Suzuki, Nestle, PowerGrid and SBI while losers included Tata Steel, Tata Consumer Products, Tata Motors, Hindalco and UPL.
Stocks such as HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, SBI, Axis Bank and Tata Motors were most active on NSE today, in terms of value. Tata Steel and ITC were the other buzzing stocks on the platform, in terms of volume.
In the NSE 500 index, shares of Metro Brands Ltd emerged as the top gainer. The stock zoomed 13.84% on NSE today to settle at Rs 1,175.15. At this price, the company commanded a market capitalisation (m-cap) of Rs 31,954 crore.
Praj Industries Ltd shares soared 9.37% to close at Rs 518.1. The company's m-cap came at Rs 9,523.4 crore.
Rainbow Children's Medicare Ltd shares surged 8.39% to close at Rs 1,276.85. The company's m-cap stood at Rs 12,960.2 crore. Kalpataru Projects International, Chalet Hotels, Motilal Oswal Financial Services and Cera Sanitaryware were some of the other gainers on NSE 500.
Shares of Tata Chemicals Ltd fell sharply today. The stock dived 7.99% to close at Rs 1,031.3 on Wednesday. At this price, the company's market cap stood at Rs 26,273 crore.
IIFL Finance Ltd shares slipped 6.37% to end the session at Rs 336.55. The company's m-cap came at Rs 12,841 crore today. Elgi Equipments, Tata Investment Corporation, Gland Pharma and Ujjivan Small Finance Bank were among some other laggards on NSE 500.
