There will be no action on Indian stock exchanges on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, on account of Ganesh Chaturthi. BSE and NSE will be closed for trading. According to the BSE website, there will be no trading in Equity Segment, Equity Derivative Segment and SLB Segment.
Both the leading stock exchanges will remain shut today. This means that, including the weekly Saturday and Sunday holidays, the BSE and NSE will be working for just four days this week.
The currency markets will also remain shut on Tuesday. Commodity markets will also remain closed on Tuesday. For the commodity derivative segment, trading will be closed in the morning session but it will be open for the evening session.
India's first listed exchange, Multi Commodity Exchange of India Limited (MCX), will also remain closed for trading in the morning session. The activity will be open in the evening session.
Trading in the equity, derivatives, securities lending and borrowing (SLB), and currency derivative segments on bourses BSE and NSE, along with the forex market, will resume on Wednesday, September 20, 2023.
BSE has listed 15 holidays for equity, equity derivatives, and SLB segments for 2023. Nine have already taken place on Republic Day (January 26), Holi (March 7), Ram Navami (March 30), Mahavir Jayanti (April 4), Good Friday (April 7), Ambedkar Jayanti (April 14), Maharashtra Day (May 1), Bakri Id (June 28) and Independence Day (August 15).
The remaining stock market holidays in this year include Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti, Dussehra, Diwali Balipratipada, Guru Nanak Jayanti, and Christmas.
In October, Indian share market will be closed on 2nd and 24th on account of Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti and Dussehra, respectively.
In November, stock exchanges will see no trading activity on the 14th and 27th on account of Diwali-Balipratipada and Gurunanak Jayanti, respectively. In December, bourses will remain closed on December 25 for Christmas.
Nifty and Sensex ended lower on Monday. The 30-share BSE Sensex pack slipped 242 points or 0.36% to close at 67,597, while the broader NSE Nifty index moved 59 points or 0.29% down to end at 20,133.
