Benchmark stock indices slipped into the red in Thursday’s trade after seeing a positive start to the session, as investors turned cautious ahead of key corporate earnings. The BSE Sensex fell 49 points, or 0.08 per cent, to 59,518. The NSE Nifty was down 22 points, or 0.13 per cent, at 17,596.
The current consolidation in the market will continue in the absence of strong triggers, said VK Vijayakumar of Geojit Financial Services. " IT as a pack is weak and the trend might continue to remain weak. Pharma is showing resilience and this sector stands to benefit from the recent spread of Covid, though mild, in many places. New-age digital consumer stocks are showing strength,” he said.
The jewellery stock the top the Sensex gainers today amid hopes of healthy Q4 earnings. In early trade, share of Titan Company hit a high of Rs 2617.7, up 2.01% on BSE. The stock had opened marginally higher at Rs 2,593.25. The market capitalisation of the Tata group company stood at Rs 2.30 lakh crore. The jeweller would announce its Q4 earnings on May 3.
Shares of Tata Motors rose nearly 1% today after the British arm Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) said it plans to invest 15 billion pounds ($18.65 billion) over the next five years to expand its electric-vehicle offerings. Tata Motors stock touched a high of Rs 473.50 , up 0.97% against the previous close of Rs 468.95 on BSE. The market cap of the firm stood at Rs 1.56 lakh crore.
Shares of Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone rose 2% today after the Adani Group firm said its board would meet on April 22 to consider its first and partial buyback of debt securities in the current financial year. Adani Ports was trading 2.06% higher at Rs 672 on BSE over its previous close of Rs 658.45. The market capitalisation of Adani Ports stood at Rs 1.45 lakh crore.
