The domestic equity market was trading higher on Monday. Sensex rose 28.46 points to 73,834 and Nifty gained 60 pts to 22,398. Market cap of BSE-listed firms rose to Rs 393.87 lakh crore.
VK Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, Geojit Financial Services said, "Consumption numbers are tepid. In brief, there is room for optimism but there is no case for unbridled bullishness. The SEBI advisory to mutual funds regarding the excessive valuations in the mid and small cap schemes is likely to restrain the performance of the broader market. The irrational exuberance in the broader segment has no fundamental justification."
Shares of JSW Steel Ltd were the top losers on Sensex and Nifty today after global brokerage CLSA downgraded the stock to sell from underperform. The metal sector stock slipped 3% to Rs 818.65 against the previous close of Rs 844.25 in early deals. A total of 0.24 lakh shares of the firm changed hands amounting to a turnover of Rs 2.01 crore on BSE.
Suzlon Energy shares fell for the third straight session today. Suzlon Energy shares fell 4.98 per cent to hit a low of Rs 41.77 on BSE. With this, the Suzlon stock has fallen 7.42 per cent in three sessions.
Shares of RailTel Corp rose 2 per cent to Rs 469 on BSE after the state-run firm said it has received the work order from State Transport Authority. Shares of state-owned NTPC Ltd hit a record high of Rs 357.90 today as Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation of various projects worth Rs 30,023 crore today. NTPC shares rose 5% against the previous close of Rs 343.5 on BSE. Market cap of NTPC stood at Rs 3.45 lakh crore on BSE. Total 11.79 lakh shares of the firm changed hands amounting to a turnover of Rs 41.61 crore.
Shares of L&T were trading on a flat note at Rs 3629.90 in early deals today. Market cap of the firm stood at Rs 4.98 lakh crore. Total 12.02 lakh shares of the firm changed hands amounting to the highest turnover of Rs 437.29 crore.
Shares of Inox Wind fell 5% to Rs 553.35 today . The stock was stuck in the lower circuit of 5% on BSE. Market cap of the firm fell to Rs 18,036 crore. Total 0.69 lakh shares changed hands amounting to a turnover of Rs 3.84 crore.
