Sensex, Nifty trading in green

The domestic equity market was trading higher in the afternoon session today. Sensex gained 218 points to 72,994 and Nifty rose 85 pts to 22,189.

Wait and watch for a  trend change

V K Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, Geojit Financial Services said, "The trend in May of sustained selling by FIIs and sustained buying by DIIs continues. So, in May, FIIs have sold equity in the cash market for Rs 29,474 crore and DIIs have bought for Rs 22,973 crore. This trend is likely to continue and the spike in India VIX will ensure high volatility. Under these circumstances, the best option for investors is to wait and watch for a trend change, which can happen any time."

Railtel

Railtel shares surged 10.37% to Rs 393.60. Railtel market cap rose to Rs 12,526 crore. Total 5.54 lakh shares of the firm changed hands amounting to a turnover of Rs 21.11 crore.

Cochin Shipyard

Shares of defence major Cochin Shipyard rose over 9% in early deals after the firm said it has won a large order from a European client for hybrid service operation vessels (SOVs). A large order's value is classified between Rs 500- Rs 1,000 crore, as per the company's release. Cochin Shipyard shares rose 9.67% to Rs 1310.60 on Tuesday against the previous close of Rs 1195 on BSE. Market cap of the defence stock rose to Rs 33,800 crore.

Zomato

Shares of Zomato fell 7% to Rs 182.10 against the previous close of Rs 193.70. Market cap of the firm declined to Rs 1.67 lakh crore post Q4 earnings. Total 40.66 lakh shares of the firm changed hands amounting to a turnover of Rs 76.49 crore. The food delivery platform reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 175 crore in Q4 against a loss of Rs 189 crore in the year-ago period.

IRFC

Shares of IRFC rose over 7% to Rs 156.20 in the afternoon session today. Market cap of the firm rose to Rs 2.02 lakh crore. Total 49.50 lakh shares of the firm changed hands amounting to a turnover of Rs 75.56 crore.

Jindal Steel

Shares of Jindal Steel hit their record high of Rs 982 in the afternoon session today post Q4 earnings.  The stock saw a turnover of Rs 14.90 crore as 1.54 lakh shares of the firm changed hands on BSE. Market cap of the firm rose to Rs 99,713 crore.

HAL

Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) shares rose 3.59 per cent to hit a one year high of Rs 4,064.10 in Tuesday's trade. Around 1.14 lakh shares changed hands on BSE today. Market capitalisation (m-cap) of the firm rose to Rs 2,71,151.48. The defence PSU will announce its fourth-quarter (Q4 FY24) results on May 16 (Thursday).

Vodafone Idea

Shares of Vodafone Idea rose 5% in afternoon session today. The stock climbed 4.99% to a high of Rs 13.28 against the previous close of Rs 12.61 on BSE. Market cap of the firm rose to Rs 87,492 crore on Tuesday.
