There will be no action on Indian stock exchanges on Monday, May 1, 2023, on account of the Maharashtra Day holiday.
Both the leading stock exchanges, the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and BSE will remain shut today, according to the holiday calendar available on the BSE and NSE.
The Equity Segment, Equity Derivative Segment, and SLB Segment as well as the Currency Derivatives Segment and Interest Rate Derivatives segments will also remain shut on this day, as per the BSE.
India's first listed exchange, Multi Commodity Exchange of India Limited (MCX), will also remain closed for trading in the morning session. Trading will resume in evening sessions on May 1.
Stock markets had remained closed on April 4, April 7, and April 14 on account of Mahavir Jayanti, Good Friday, and Baba Saheb Ambedkar Jayanti holiday respectively.
In May, equity market will remain closed on a weekday only on May 1. The next holiday will be on June 28, 2023, on the occasion of Eid al-Adha or Bakri Id. After that, the market will remain closed on a weekday on Independence Day, August 15, 2023.
During the calendar year 2023, BSE has listed 15 holidays for equity, equity derivatives, and SLB segments. While there is only one stock market holiday in September on the 19th due to Ganesh Chaturthi. Markets will remain closed twice in October on account of Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti and Dussehra.
In November, stock exchanges will see no trading activity on the 14th and 27th on account of Diwali-Balipratipada and Gurunanak Jayanti respectively. In December, bourses will remain closed on December 25 for Christmas.
In the previous session on Friday, domestic indices in the green territory. The NSE Nifty 50 surged 149.95 points or 0.84% to 18,065 and BSE Sensex rose 463.06 points or 0.76% to 61,112.44. In sectoral indices, Bank Nifty jumped 233.05 points or 0.54% to 43,233.9.
