There will be no action on Indian stock exchanges on Monday, October 2, 2023, on account of Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti. BSE and NSE will be closed for trading. According to the BSE website, there will be no trading in Equity Segment, Equity Derivative Segment and SLB Segment.
Both the leading stock exchanges will remain shut today. This means that, including the weekly Saturday and Sunday holidays, BSE and NSE will be working for just four days this week.
The currency markets will also remain shut on Monday. Commodity markets will also remain closed today. For the commodity derivative segment, trading will be closed during both morning and evening sessions.
India's first listed exchange, Multi Commodity Exchange of India Limited (MCX), will also remain closed for trading in the morning and evening sessions.
Trading in the equity, derivatives, securities lending and borrowing (SLB), and currency derivative segments on bourses BSE and NSE, along with the forex market, will resume on Tuesday, October 3, 2023.
BSE has listed 15 holidays for equity, equity derivatives, and SLB segments for 2023. 10 have already taken place on Republic Day (January 26), Holi (March 7), Ram Navami (March 30), Mahavir Jayanti (April 4), Good Friday (April 7), Ambedkar Jayanti (April 14), Maharashtra Day (May 1), Bakri Id (June 28), Independence Day (August 15) and Ganesh Chaturthi (September 19).
In October, Indian share exchanges will be closed on 24th this month on account of Dussehra.
So, the remaining stock market holidays in this year include Dussehra (October 24), Diwali Balipratipada (November 14), Guru Nanak Jayanti (November 27) and Christmas (December 25).
Nifty and Sensex rebounded on Friday (September 29). The 30-share BSE Sensex pack rose 320 points or 0.49% to close at 65,828, while the broader NSE Nifty index moved 115 points or 0.59% up to end at 19,638.
"Domestic benchmarks made a recovery attempt and managed to close half a percent higher. Though the pace of decline has softened, the tone is still negative and we don't see that change until Nifty decisively reclaims 19,750," said Ajit Mishra, SVP - Technical Research at Religare Broking.
