Benchmark indices snapped their sharp three-day losing run to settle higher on Friday, led by gains in financials, automobile, metal, state-owned lenders and energy stocks. Headline index NSE Nifty closed at 21,622.40-level. Top gainers on the Nifty50 platform were ONGC, Airtel, NTPC, Tech Mahindra and SBI Life while losers included IndusInd Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, HDFC Bank, Adani Enterprises and Adani Ports.
Stocks such as HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, IndusInd Bank, Reliance Industries and Axis Bank were most active on NSE today, in terms of value. Tata Steel, NTPC and ONGC were the other buzzing stocks on the platform, in terms of volume.
Shares of Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVNL) emerged as the top gainer in the NSE 500 index. The stock zoomed 19.56% on NSE today to settle at Rs 291.25. At this price, the company commanded a market capitalisation (m-cap) of Rs 60,726.2 crore.
General Insurance Corporation of India shares soared 16.47% to close at Rs 356.05. The company's m-cap came at Rs 62,465.4 crore.
Housing and Urban Development Corporation shares surged 15.76% to close at Rs 159.4. The company's m-cap stood at Rs 31,910.3 crore.
Shares of Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd fell sharply today. The stock dived 5.32% to close at Rs 235 on Friday. At this price, the company's market cap stood at Rs 22,572.2 crore.
Metro Brands shares slipped 3.91% to end the session at Rs 1,165.65. The company's m-cap came at Rs 31,690 crore today.
