Benchmark indices -- BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty -- fell sharply on Wednesday, dragged by banks, energy, realty, media and automobile stocks. Headline index Nifty tanked 247 points or 1.11% to close at 21,951.15-level. Top losers on the Nifty50 platform were PowerGrid, Bajaj Auto, Apollo Hospitals, Eicher Motors and IndusInd Bank while gainers included Hindustan Unilever, Airtel, Infosys and TCS.
Stocks such as HDFC Bank, Tata Motors, Reliance Industries, SBI and Axis Bank were most active on NSE today, in terms of value. Tata Steel, PowerGrid and NTPC were the other buzzing stocks on the platform, in terms of volume.
Shares of Vodafone Idea emerged as the top loser in the NSE 500 index. The stock cracked 13.88% on NSE today to settle at Rs 13.65. At this price, the company commanded a market capitalisation (m-cap) of Rs 66,448 crore.
HFCL Ltd shares slumped 7.01% to close at Rs 104.85. The company's m-cap came at Rs 15,085.5 crore.
Infibeam Avenues Ltd shares tanked 6.65% to close at Rs 33.7. The company's m-cap stood at Rs 9,363.1 crore. Motilal Oswal Financial Services, PNC Infratech, Zee Entertainment Enterprises and KFIN Technologies were some of the other losers on NSE 500.
Shares of Rainbow Children Medicare Ltd rose sharply today. The stock surged 11.11% to close at Rs 1,429.2 on Wednesday. At this price, the company's market cap stood at Rs 14,506.6 crore.
Aegis Logistics Ltd shares jumped 6.39% to end the session at Rs 443.5. The company's m-cap came at Rs 15,566.9 crore today. Havells India, KEC International, Pfizer and Max Financial Services were among some other gainers on NSE 500.
