Benchmark indices (BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty) on Wednesday fell sharply, dragged by media, metal, state-owned banks, realty and energy stocks. Headline index Nifty tanked 338 points or 1.51% to close at 21,998-level. Broader market also corrected today. Top losers on the Nifty50 platform were PowerGrid, Coal India, Adani Enterprises, NTPC and Adani Ports while gainers included ITC, ICICI Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Bajaj Finance and Cipla.
Stocks such as HDFC Bank, ITC, ICICI Bank, SBI and Reliance Industries were most active on NSE today, in terms of value. Tata Steel and PowerGrid were the other buzzing stocks on the platform, in terms of volume.
Shares of RITES Ltd emerged as the top loser in the NSE 500 index. The stock cracked 15.47% on NSE today to settle at Rs 585.55. At this price, the company commanded a market capitalisation (m-cap) of Rs 14,070.9 crore.
Swan Energy Ltd shares slumped 13.21% to close at Rs 473.9. The company's m-cap came at Rs 14,854.7 crore.
BLS International Services Ltd shares tanked 12.38% to close at Rs 287.95. The company's m-cap stood at Rs 11,856.1 crore. NMDC Steel, Jindal Saw, Engineers India, BEML and IRCON International were some of the other losers on NSE 500.
Shares of ITC Ltd rose sharply today after top shareholder British American Tobacco completed the sale of 43.69 crore shares, or roughly 3.5% of India FMCG giant's outstanding shares, for Rs 16,690 crore. The stock surged 4.45% to close at Rs 422.45 on Wednesday. At this price, the company's market cap stood at Rs 527,279.7 crore.
Kalyan Jewellers India Ltd shares jumped 2.25% to end the session at Rs 390.1. The company's m-cap came at Rs 40,182.4 crore today. Abbott India, CG Power and Industrial Solutions, Timken India, Intellect Design Arena and Restaurant Brands Asia were among some other gainers on NSE 500.
