NSE and BSE have announced a total of 14 trading holidays for the year 2024, with the first four holidays creating an extended weekend for the stock market.
Five holidays, including Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Jayanti, Shri Mahavir Jayanti, Ganesh Chaturthi, Dussehra, and Diwali-Balipratipada, will fall on Saturdays and Sundays.
In March, the first holiday on Republic Day (January 26) will have an extended weekend. Similar extended holidays will follow in March, including Mahashivratri on March 8 (Friday), Holi on March 25 (Monday), and Good Friday on March 29.
April, July, and November will witness two market holidays each, contributing to scheduled breaks in trading activities.
February and September have no market holidays, ensuring continuous trading during these months.
Diwali on November 1 will see a special Muhurat trading, with the timing to be announced close to the festival day.
The commodity derivatives market will observe five full-day trading holidays – Republic Day, Good Friday, Independence Day, Gandhi Jayanti, and Christmas.
On holidays mentioned for the equity segment, the commodity market will be open for trading in the evening session.
On New Year's Day, January 1, the commodity derivative market will be closed for trading in the evening session.
