Benchmark indices closed almost flat on Thursday after scaling their fresh lifetime high levels, led by gains in media, metal and consumer stocks. Headline index NSE Nifty eventually closed at 22,493.55-level after hitting an all-time high of 22,525.65 in intraday trade. The 30-share BSE pack touched a record peak of 74,245.17 before settling 0.05 per cent higher at 74,119.39. Top gainers on the Nifty50 platform were Tata Consumer Products, Tata Steel, Bajaj Auto, UPL and JSW Steel while losers included M&M, BPCL, Reliance Industries, Axis Bank and LTIMindtree.
Stocks such as HDFC Bank, M&M, Tata Steel, Tata Motors and Reliance were most active on NSE today, in terms of value. ITC was the other buzzing stock on the platform, in terms of volume.
In the NSE 500 index, shares of Rallis India Ltd emerged as the top gainer. The stock zoomed 13.15% on NSE today to settle at Rs 287.8. At this price, the company commanded a market capitalisation (m-cap) of Rs 5,596.8 crore.
Tata Chemicals Ltd shares soared 11.61% to close at Rs 1,315.25. The company's m-cap came at Rs 33,506.8 crore. The ongoing upward march in the share price could be largely attributed to the buzz on Street about Tata Sons' potential listing, which is a promoter in Tata Chemicals.
Concord Biotech Ltd shares surged 10.23% to close at Rs 1,532.3. The company's m-cap stood at Rs 16,030.3 crore. IIFL Finance, Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra), Tata Power Company and Graphite India were some of the other gainers on NSE 500.
Shares of Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd Ltd fell sharply today. The stock dived 3.71% to close at Rs 1,897.55 on Thursday. At this price, the company's market cap stood at Rs 2,35,965.8 crore.
Rajesh Exports Ltd shares slipped 3.63% to end the session at Rs 317.7. The company's m-cap came at Rs 9,380.4 crore today. Apollo Tyres, Kajaria Ceramics, NLC India and Motherson Sumi Wiring India were among some other laggards on NSE 500.
