"Markets were volatile on the expiry day, but Dow Jones futures indicating positive start for US markets and gains in other Asian indices helped domestic markets to clock modest gains at close. However, caution prevailed amongst the investors ahead of the exit poll results of five states and the market could see a knee-jerk reaction," said Prashanth Tapse, Senior VP (Research), Mehta Equities.
On the stock-specific front, HAL, LTI Mindtree, Wipro, KIOCL, Thomas Cook, L&T and some other counters will be in focus today.
Shares of Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) rose 1.65% to close at Rs 2,382.30 in the previous trading session. The defence ministry has given its initial approval to projects worth Rs 2.23 lakh crore that included procurement of 97 Tejas light combat aircraft and 156 Prachand combat helicopters, in a major move to significantly enhance the combat capabilities of the armed forces. Tejas light combat and Prachand choppers are developed by HAL.
Shares of LTIMindtree slipped 0.80% to close at Rs 5,543.40. The company said it has been selected as a strategic partner by Metasphere to scale their Smart Sewers management platform.
Power Finance Corporation Ltd shares gained 2.07% to close at Rs 334.95. The state-run firm, in a BSE filing, said, "This is to inform that Paradeep Transmission Ltd, a special purpose vehicle (SPV) company, has been incorporated as a wholly-owned subsidiary of PFC Consulting Ltd. PFC Consulting is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Power Finance Corporation."
Shares of Wipro moved 1.75% up to settle at Rs 413.25. The IT firm announced that it is working with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to redefine the future of lab processes in the life sciences industry.
Shares of KIOCL Ltd shed 1.23% to close at Rs 305.50. The PSU's chief financial officer CFO Manoj Kumar Jhawar has stepped down.
Shares of Thomas Cook (India) dived 4.99% to settle at Rs 150.35. The Mumbai-based travel agency kicked off its two-day offer for sale (OFS) on Thursday. The OFS will open for retail investors today.
Shares of Mahindra & Mahindra climbed 1.77% to close at Rs 1,647.60. The company said it has incorporated two step-down subsidiaries, namely Kyros Hybren Pvt Ltd (Kyros) and Jade Hybren Pvt Ltd (Jade).
Shares of L&T rose 1.03% to close at Rs 3,111.65. The company said it has incorporated a new wholly-owned subsidiary – L&T Semiconductor Technologies Ltd.
Shares of ASK Automotive moved 0.51% up to settle at Rs 294.80. The company is scheduled to announce its quarterly results today.
Shares of Alphalogic Industries tanked 5% to settle at Rs 355.30. The stock will trade ex-bonus in a 1:1 ratio.
