Benchmark indices settled higher on Thursday amid a highly volatile trading session. Headline index NSE Nifty closed at 20,133-level. Top gainers on the Nifty50 platform were UltraTech Cement, HDFC Life, Apollo Hospitals, Bharti Airtel and Sun Pharma while losers included Adani Enterprises, IndusInd Bank, Adani Ports, LTI Mindtree and Reliance Industries.
Stocks such as IndusInd Bank, HDFC Bank, Reliance, Axis Bank and ICICI Bank were most active on NSE today, in terms of value. PowerGrid and Tata Steel were the other buzzing stocks on the platform, in terms of volume.
Shares of The New India Assurance Company emerged as the top gainer in the NSE 500 index. The stock zoomed 10% on NSE today to settle at Rs 255.2.
NBCC (India) Ltd shares jumped 8.71% to close at Rs 76.1. At this price, the company commanded a market capitalisation (m-cap) of Rs 13,698 crore.
Shares of India Cements surged 7.85% to end at Rs 251.35 today. The company's market cap came at Rs 7,789.3 crore.
Shares of Great Eastern Shipping Company gained 7.76% today to settle at Rs 875.55. The company's market valuation stood at Rs 12,500 crore.
Shares of Aether Industries fell sharply today. The stock dived 5.99% to close at Rs 779.75 on Thursday.
Indian Bank shares tanked 5.23% to end the session at Rs 396.9. The lender's m-cap stood at Rs 49,431.6 crore today.
Shares of Sterlite Technologies were also among top losers in the NSE 500 pack today. The stock lost 3.85% to settle at Rs 146.2. The company's market cap was at Rs 5,834.1 crore.
"We have almost reached the record high level now after three days of advance and may take a breather now. However, rotational buying across sectors would keep the tone positive. We suggest utilizing an intermediate pause or a dip to add quality names," said Ajit Mishra, SVP - Technical Research at Religare Broking.
