A pair of rare Apple sneakers from the mid-1990s is on sale at the website of auctioneer, Sotheby’s. The shoes were designed to be a one-time giveaway for the company’s employees.

Apple Sneakers on sale

The ‘ultra-rare’ sneakers are white in colours with a shape similar to that of the Nike Air Force. The iconic rainbow logo of Apple is present on the tongue and lateral quarter of the shoes. The pair comes with an extra set of red laces as well.

Apple Sneakers: Design

Though they have never been worn there are still marks consistent with the effects of ageing. There are some yellow marks around the midsoles and light marks on the toe boxes as well. But it still makes them very desirable for Apple enthusiasts and collectors.

The shoes were never available for the public which makes their existence even more special. Sotheby’s is selling the ‘ultra-rare’ Apple Sneakers for a price tag of $50,000 (Rs 41 lakh).

Apple Sneakers Price

Apple Sneakers are the third most expensive shoes on the Sotheby’s website after a pair of Nike SB Dunk Low Paris Bernard Buffet being sold for $90,000 (Rs 74 lakh) and a pair of Nike x Louis Vuitton Air Force priced at $75,000 (Rs 61.6 lakh).

Before it became a tech giant, in 1986, Apple had also released a full collection of clothing and accessories like bags, umbrellas, towels and even pocket knives. The collection was called ‘The Apple Collection’.

Other Apple memorabilia

Earlier this month, an unboxed 4GB first-gen iPhone from 2007 was auctioned at a record price of $1,90,000 (Rs 1.5 crore). Apple had launched two storage options in 2007 – 4GB and 8GB. But the 4GB model was discontinued just two months after launch due to the customers’ preference for bigger storage.

Apart from the record price sale, another first-gen iPhone was sold earlier this year with 8GB of storage for a price of $63,356. While last year, another factory-sealed 8GB first-gen iPhone was sold for $39,339.60.

Other rare iPhone auctions

In another bizarre auction last year, a buyer purchased a pair of used Birkenstocks sandals for $218,750 (Rs 1.8 crore). The sandals were worn by Apple co-founder and former CEO Steve Jobs.
