OpenAI has launched ChatGPT 4o, a new AI model at its OpenAI Spring Update event. “GPT-4o reasons across voice, text, and vision. And with this incredible efficiencies, it also allows us to bring the GPT-4o intelligence to our free users. This is something we have been trying to do for many, many months,” said chief technology officer Mira Murati. Here are 5 things that you should know about.
ChatGPT 4o is omni-modal
The biggest highlight of ChatGPT 4o is that it can understand text, speech, and video inputs. This will allow users to interact with it in more intuitive ways. The company claims that it has improved significantly over its predecessor, offers faster response times and enhanced capabilities across a range of tasks. It will be rolled out in 50 languages that also include Indian languages
ChatGPT 4o: Free for everyone
OpenAI has confirmed that ChatGPT 4o will be free for everyone. However, the catch is that they will only be allowed a limited number of interactions. In the blogpost, the company stated, “Plus users will have a message limit that is up to 5x greater than free users, and Team and Enterprise users will have even higher limits.”
Conversational mode
ChatGPT 4o excels at natural-sounding conversations, making interactions with the AI feel more human-like and engaging. At the event, OpenAI demonstrated that it is capable of real-time conversational speech by interrupting it while it is talking, asking it to change tone, and have it react to user emotions.
Live translation
ChatGPT 4o can even translate in real time. At the event, Murati also demonstrated how the voice assistant can translate in different languages like from English to Italian and Italian to English in real-time.
Memory function
ChatGPT 4o can remember past interactions within a session, allowing for more contextual and personalized responses. For example, if you mention you’re writing a report on a specific topic, it can tailor its suggestions or information retrieval to that topic throughout your conversation.
ChatGPT 4o availability
ChatGPT 4o is available for free for everyone but as mentioned earlier, they are only allowed limited number of interactions. If you have ChatGPT Plus, you can send several more queries and you won’t face heavy traffic during peak usage times. The company has stated, “Plus users will have a message limit that is up to 5x greater than free users, and Team and Enterprise users will have even higher limits.”
