Lil Tay, whose real name is Claire Hope, and her brother Jason Tian were both passionate about rapping. The statement shared on Instagram read, "It is with a heavy heart that we share the devastating news of our beloved Claire’s sudden and tragic passing. We have no words to express the unbearable loss and indescribable pain… Her brother’s passing adds an even more unimaginable depth to our grief.”
As the post on her official Instagram came 5 years after her last post, fans began speculating on whether the teen rapper was actually dead. Lil Tay’s last post was on June 19, 2018, where she had penned a condolence note about popular rapper XXXTentacion’s sudden demise. She considered him a “father figure”

“Um, no, not that I’m aware of… Sorry, I can’t really comment,” said Lil Tay’s father when asked about his daughter’s death. Lil Tay’s former manager Harry Tsang refused to confirm the news of her death. He said, "I am at a point where I cannot definitively confirm or dismiss the legitimacy of the statement issued by the family.”
