30-year-old Bobi has been named as the "oldest dog ever" by Guinness World Records. Portugal-based Bobi is 30 years and 278 days old as of February 13
Bobi is a purebred Rafeiro do Alentejo, a dog breed that usually has a life expectancy of 12 to 14 years. Leonel Costa, the 38-year-old owner of Bobi, attributed Bobi's longevity to a number of factors
Living in the calm countryside, never having been chained or kept on a leash and was always eating "human food" were some of the key factors underlined by owner Leonel Costa for Bobi becoming world’s oldest dog
"We knew that when he opened his eyes, my parents wouldn't be able to bury him. Of course, our love and affection throughout his life has also helped,” said Bobi’s owner
Prior to the Portuguese pooch, the previous oldest dog ever was Bluey, an Australian cattle dog, who lived to be 29 years and 5 months old
As Bobi was officially named the oldest dog on record, owner Costa said that it's a "feeling of pride" that cannot be explained. The Guinness World of Records has described Bobi's story as "miraculous"
30-year-old Bobi has lived his entire life with the Costa family in the rural village of Conqueiros, in the Leiria district of central Portugal
Costa said that he hopes Bobi has many more years of life. He said that he is thankful that the world’s oldest dog has put the remote village of Conqueiros on the map
