BharatPe co-founder Ashneer Grover, who calls himself his “own master” as per his LinkedIn bio, has not been able to master the art of remaining away from controversies as he faced multiple upheavals in 2022
Ashneer, who became a household name back in 2021, after he appeared in the entrepreneurial reality show Shark Tank India Season 1, was ousted from his own company BharatPe, which is a UPI app allowing people to make digital payments. Since then, he has been vocal about several aspects of his professional journey
IIT Delhi and IIM Ahmedabad alumni Ashneer said in an interview that he had rejected Virat Kolhi as his company’s brand ambassador as those brokering the deal were keen on bringing Anushka Sharma on board as well
He said, “I don’t have to make them wear Manyavar wedding clothes, instead get me two players within the budget of Virat Kohli.”
His journey as a judge at the entrepreneurial reality show, Shark Tank India Season 1 also sparked many online debates. He was often called out for his sharp replies and tough feedback to the pitchers. However, some people supported his ‘mince no words’ attitude
Ashneer Grover was sacked from BharatPe on allegations of misappropriation of funds. Later his wife Madhuri Grover was also probed in the same case. Ashneer denied such allegations and had a war of words with BharatPe CEO Suhail Sameer, who was recently sacked for non-performance
Ashneer recently authored his book titled Doglapan, based on his viral line on Shark Tank India. Ashneer’s book Doglapan, published by Penguin Random House, chronicles his life and struggles in a quirky style
Suhail Sameer, who recently stepped down as BharatPe CEO, was attacked by Ashneer who wrote a sarcastic poem calling Suhail “incompetent” and asking his co-founder Shashvat Nakrani to “man up” and “handle the affairs”
During a talk show, Ashneer said, “I want to become a minister one day... I have not said this very openly because I don’t have a crystallised plan. But it's there in the back of my mind.”
On his 40th birthday, Ashneer announced his new start-up as he said, “its time to disrupt another sector. It’s time for the Third Unicorn.”
