On August 23, India achieved a historic feat in space exploration with the successful landing of Chandrayaan-3. At the core of this achievement is the remarkable Pragyan rover, which, according to an ISRO’s video on YouTube, will leave imprints of India's national emblem and the ISRO logo on the Moon's surface.

Pragyan is on Moon’s Surface

The Pragyan rover, designed for this mission, showcases India's national emblem, the Lion Capital of Ashoka at Sarnath, and the iconic ISRO logo. These imprints are embedded on the lunar terrain by the rover's rear wheels, which could leave a symbol of India's presence on the Moon’s South Pole for a long time to come.

Pragyan Rover's Emblem Imprints

The imprints left behind by Pragyan on the Moon's South Pole are of immense significance. They stand as enduring symbols of India's commitment to scientific advancement and space exploration, portraying the nation's technological prowess and visionary approach.

The unique lunar environment ensures the longevity of these imprints. With no atmosphere and minimal wind due to the Moon's thin atmosphere, the rover's marks could remain undisturbed. The combined effect of lower atmospheric pressure and stronger gravitational forces can preserve the imprints for billions of years.

Permanence of Imprints

The only way these imprints could be deliberately erased is if someone lands a vehicle around the area where Pragyan is researching. The downward thrust from the engines of another lander could displace the sand around the area.

What could erase the
Emblem ?

An alternate scenario that could lead to the natural removal of these imprints is if an asteroid or meteor collides with the exact trajectory that Pragyan followed on the Lunar Surface. The resulting impact might create a substantial crater, leading to significant displacement of the surrounding lunar soil.

The Crater's Impact

Similar imprints, such as the American Flags planted during the Apollo missions during the 1970’s, still endure on the lunar surface. Images from the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter reveal that these flags are still standing at their designated sites. Shadows in these areas confirmed their presence.

However, as of now, there is no official statement from ISRO regarding the imprints on the Moon's surface. The veracity of reports about the imprints' presence remains to be confirmed.

Official Confirmation

The act of imprinting national symbols on the Moon transcends scientific significance. It reflects India's national pride, showcasing the nation's achievements in the realm of space exploration and underlining its trajectory of technological advancement.

National Pride and Technological Progress

In essence, the triumphant landing of Chandrayaan-3 and the symbolic imprints of Pragyan on the Moon epitomise India's journey towards scientific excellence, its remarkable strides in space exploration, and an untouched mark, that it will leaves on the cosmos.
