Cyclone Mocha made landfall near the state capital of Myanmar, Sittwe on Sunday carrying winds of up to 195 kilometres (120 miles) per hour that hammered low-lying communities. As of Tuesday, Cyclone Mocha death toll in Myanmar's Rakhine has risen to a least 41, as per AFP
IMD had issued an Orange alert in the wake of Cyclone Mocha approaching Kolkata and Mizoram. It has been touted as possibly the strongest tropical cyclone in the north Indian Ocean since 1982. The department also issued a “heavy to very heavy” rainfall warning over Northeastern states due to Cyclone Mocha over the Northeast Bay of Bengal
Heavy rainfall is to be expected in isolated parts of Arunachal Pradesh between 14th and 16th May. Nagaland, Meghalaya, Assam, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura will also experience the same between 14th and 18th of May. Isolated areas in Assam and Meghalaya should expect very heavy rainfall on the 15th, 16th and 18th May. The same should be expected in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura between 14th and 17th May
