Sohan Rai said that when he worked as a delivery agent for a day, it made him realise about the long working hours of delivery agents and hours of traffic they had to face. So, to address these issues, he decided to make a drone

Sharing a video of his self-made drone, Sohan Rai wrote, “I wanted to put my skills into use and build an autonomous drone which could deliver a pizza directly to a home, without having a pilot. Here, I have built the drone with a lot of Jugaad, and it would be a lot better when it is commercial. This is an experiment and was conducted with safety and precautions.”

Delivering goods is not the only thing for which drones are being used, as recently a video showed Chinese fire department using drones to douse fires

Firefighting drones in China

An X (fka Twitter) user named ‘Sharing Travel’ posted a video on the microblogging site, which showed the fire department of Shaanxi using drones carrying water pipes to douse a fire on a multistorey building. Last year, in the Xi city of Shaanxi province, drones were being used in emergency rescue drills

Apart from pipes, the drones were also seen carrying fire extinguishing bombs while advancing against the fire

The Fire Brigade Department in Mumbai is also going to add drones in their fleet soon, which will help them douse fires in high rise buildings of the city. The drones will help by providing an aerial view and sending photos of the top floors of the building. Also, its capacity to spray small quantities of water will help in controlling flames to some extent

One of the senior officials from the Mumbai fire brigade told Hindustan Times in March, “There was a demonstration of the drone. We are not buying them just for high-rises. We are well equipped with hydraulic ladders that can access heights of 80 and 90-metres, but there are bigger challenges from traffic because big fire engines cannot reach the spots on time.”

challenges from traffic

Drones can help locate victims, allow firefighters to access a view of the floors that are higher up, enable them to track the exact spot of the door, people inside and where the smoke is emerging from
