Lokayukta’s Special Police Establishment from Jabalpur caught a patwari in Katni district for taking a bribe. But, instead of running away, the man did something bizarre.
After getting caught red-handed for taking bribes, patwari Gajendra Singh chewed and swallowed the notes he had taken as bribe. The government official ate around Rs 5,000 and was immediately rushed to the hospital. The notes were later retrieved from his body in the form of pulp.
Gajendra, a patwari in Bilhari Halka village of Katni district, had asked the complainant Chandan Singh Lodhi for a bribe of Rs 5,000 in a land case. So, Lodhi filed a complaint with the Jabalpur Lokayukta.
After investigation, Lokayukta Police reached Bilhari village where they arrested Singh red-handed as he was taking a bribe of Rs 4,500. But as soon as he was arrested, he swallowed the notes.
In a similar incident earlier this year, the Anti-Corruption Bureau of Hazaribagh caught a Jharkhand government official for taking a bribe from an organisation.
Mitali Sharma was an assistant registrar in the cooperative department of Jharkhand, which was her first posting. During a surprise inspection of Koderma Vyapar Sahyog Samiti, Sharma found some irregularities and started threatening them about taking action.
Rameshwar Prasad Yadav, a member of the group, filed a complaint with the DG of Anti-Corruption Bureau. ACB verified the complaint and laid a trap to catch her red-handed.
Sharma fell in the trap and was caught red-handed while taking Rs 10,000 as the first instalment of Rs 20,000 bribe. She was then taken to ACB’s Hazaribagh for further legal proceedings and investigation.
In another corruption case in March, Haryana Vigilance department arrested a woman sub-inspector of Haryana Police for taking a bribe of Rs 5,000. National Crime Investigation Bureau (NCIB) tweeted the video of her arrest while writing, “This is the same woman SI who was honoured on Republic Day for her good work and honesty.”
