Finland has topped happiness index for sixth time in a row by UN report which was released on the International Day of Happiness. The UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network publishes the report annually.
India has been ranked at the 126th place among 137 countries in the latest World Happiness Report published by a non-profit organisation launched by the United Nations.
India’s ranking was below Pakistan, Nepal, China, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka. In Asia, India is only above Afghanistan, which was placed at 137th position.
Pakistan was ranked at 108th position, while Bangladesh was at the 118th spot, the index revealed. Sri Lanka was ranked 112th place while Nepal was 78th on the list.
War-ravaged Ukraine was ranked way above India at 92 and Russia was positioned at 72.
The World Happiness Report is based on GDP per capita, social support, healthy life expectancy, freedom, generosity, and low corruption. It assigns a happiness score based on an average of data over a three-year period.
The Nordic country is known for its extensive welfare system, high trust in authorities and low levels of inequality among its 5.5 million inhabitants.
Nordic countries got the top positions for 2022, which is the same as 2021. After Finland, Denmark was ranked number 2 and Iceland was positioned at number 3.
Knocking France off the 20th spot, Lithuania became the only new country in the top 20 with Estonia in at number 31, up from 66 in 2017.
The World Happiness Report, first published in 2012, is based on people's own assessment of their happiness, as well as economic and social data.
