Beans have been celebrated for their versatility and nutritional richness, boasting high levels of protein, fibre, vitamins, and minerals. Rajma has gained worldwide recognition by earning two spots on TasteAtlas '50 Best Bean Dishes from Around the World' rankings, according to the online food guide.
The traditional flavour of classic rajma ranked 18th position with an impressive rating of 4.2.
Following suit, the beloved 'Rajma Chawal', featuring comforting rajma paired with steaming rice, secured the 24th spot with a rating of 4.1.
Originally, the red kidney beans were brought to India from central Mexico and Guatemala. It's interesting to note that the Indian version of the dish significantly differs from the Mexican one. Rajma, known for its nutritional value, continues to be a beloved vegetarian curry dish in Punjab and North India.
Meanwhile, in Mexico these kidney beans are often consumed in the form of salad, wrap, and tacos.
Rajma Pulao, Rajma Kebab, Kashmiri Rajma, Rajma Masala, Rajma Tikki, Rajma Raita, Paneer Rajma are some loved dishes with the kidney bean.
According to the TasteAtlas, Greece's Gigandes Plaki, made from large white beans cooked in a flavoured tomato sauce, often enjoyed with bread, claimed the top spot as the ultimate champion, surpassing all other bean-based delicacies.
After that, Iranian dish Khoresh Gheimeh, secured the second position in the list. Prepared with yellow split beans, this traditional Iranian meat stew features tomatoes, onions, turmeric, and dried lime in its flavorful composition.
