Japanese Ambassador Hiroshi Suzuki has embarked on a journey, enjoying Indian food in the streets of every place he visits. His recent videos on Twitter have attracted a lot of attention
Suzuki recently posted a video on Twitter in which he can be seen trying the famous vada pav in Pune. In the video he is accompanied by wife, who appears to be a fan of spicy food! Suzuki captioned the video: “My wife beat me!🌶”
In fact, Ambassador Suzuki's video attracted the attention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself. He responded: “This is one contest you may not mind losing, Mr. Ambassador. Good to see you enjoying India’s culinary diversity and also presenting it in such an innovative manner. Keep the videos coming!”
Last month Suzuki posted a video of himself enjoying the famous Banarasi paan during his visit to PM Modi’s constituency
The Japanese Ambassador also tasted paani puri during his Varanasi visit. His inspiration came from Japanese PM Kishida's visit, when he enjoyed aam panna, golgappas, fried idlis, and a cup of chai at Buddha Jayanti Park in March
Not only the Japanese, but even Italians are also trying street food recently. Last month Consul General of India, Alessandro De Masi also tried Indian street food with YouTuber Giulia. Alessandro tried bhelpuri and Mumbai sandwiches among other things
US Ambassador Eric Garcetti also tried the vada pav when he visited the Maharashtra Bhawan in Delhi on May 13. Eric also tried kokum ka sherbet, vada pav, sago, bharli vangi and saoji mutton, among other dishes
Alex Ellis, the British High Commissioner to India also went viral in 2021 when he first tried dosa and then vada pav. Elis posted a photo of him holding a vada pav near the Gateway of India. He captioned his photo as “There’s always time to have a vada pav in Mumbai - lai bhaari,”
Apple CEO Tim Cook also enjoyed his first vada pav in April with Bollywood actress Madhuri Dixit. Cook was in the town for the inauguration of Apple’s first retail store at BKC. The iPhone maker CEO wrote on twitter: “Thanks @madhuridixit for introducing me to my very first vada pav — it was delicious!”
