In a bizarre incident, a jeweller in Madhya Pradesh's Rewa mistakenly threw away jewellery worth Rs 12 lakh along with other trash
The garbage, which included jewellery worth Rs 12 lakh, had already been collected and taken away by the local civic truck before he realised his mistake
The jeweller Pramod Kumar's family had been weary of the growing number of thefts in their locality and concealed the jewellery box inside a dustbin
However, the jeweller forgot to remove the box before discarding the garbage. Soon after realising his mistake, he contacted the local civic body in Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa
The officials from MP’s Rewa civic body formed a team of some workers and tasked them with finding the lost jewellery box from piles of trash at a dumping ground
India Today cited one of the officials who said, "For several hours, a team of about two dozen employees diligently searched for the jewellery amid the garbage until we successfully found the precious items."
Amid speculations around the involvement of black money, the police asked for a receipt for the jewellery
However, the jeweller was able to produce the required documents for the lost jewellery and was thus handed over the jewellery box
The Madhya Pradesh police has not filed any case against him as this was considered to be a genuine mistake on the part of the complainant
The incident reminded people of a 2022 incident in Mumbai when the police recovered a bag of gold ornaments mistakenly given to a beggar. The bag was dumped in a garbage heap, dragged away by rats and eventually ended up in a gutter from where it was finally recovered
