In the 1965 NBC news documentary ‘The Decision to Drop the Bomb’ Oppenheimer shared his experience after conducting the Atomic test as he said, “I remembered the line from the Hindu scripture the Bhagavad Gita. Vishnu is trying to persuade the prince that he should do his duty and to impress him, takes on his multi-armed form and says, now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds”

Cillian Murphy, who plays the titular role of Oppenheimer, revealed that he read Bhagavad Gita to prepare for his role. In an interview with film critic Sucharita Tyagi, Murphy said, “I did read the Bhagavad Gita in preparation, and I thought it was an absolutely beautiful text, very inspiring. I think it was a consolation to him, he kind of needed it and it provided him a lot of consolation, all his life. I just found it very beautiful.”

Julius Robert Oppenheimer was the director of Los Alamos Laboratory in the US during World War II. It worked on the ‘Manhattan Project’ aimed at harnessing nuclear energy in 1942. After a string of failed efforts, the lab created the world’s first atomic bomb, code-named ‘Trinity’. It was developed in the middle of the New Mexico desert, marking the beginning of the Atomic age

Julius Robert Oppenheimer

Named as ‘Father of the Atomic Bomb’, Julius Robert Oppenheimer, made significant contributions to theoretical physics, such as quantum mechanics and nuclear physics such as the Born–Oppenheimer approximation for molecular wave functions, theory of electrons and positrons, the Oppenheimer–Phillips process in nuclear fusion, and the first prediction of quantum tunnelling

J Robert Oppenheimer -
Father of Atomic Bomb

Soon after creating the Atomic bomb, Oppenheimer understood its power of causing worldwide destruction and lobbied for the international regularisation of nuclear arms.  He also opposed the development of the hydrogen bomb during a 1949–1950 governmental debate. All this led to the revocation of his security cover by the US government. Years later in 2022, the US government reversed its decision saying that it was flawed
