Many of us are fond of pet animals but there are only a handful of people who go out of their way to take care of stray animals, who also need as much love and care as our pets. Former Chairman of Tata Sons and Tata Group, billionaire Ratan Tata has urged people to take care of stray animals, especially dogs and cats, during monsoon
Ratan Tata wrote in his Instagram post, “Now that the monsoons are here, a lot of stray cats and dogs take shelter under our cars. It is important to check under our car before we turn it on and accelerate to avoid injuries to stray animals taking shelter. They can be seriously injured, handicapped and even killed if we are unaware of their presence under our vehicles. It would be heartwarming if we could all offer them temporary shelter when it is pouring this season.”
Ratan Tata also shared an image of a dog, which has a QR code attached to its collar. This would help people to track the dogs in case of any mishap
Netizens have appreciated Ratan Tata’s post on tips to take care of stray animals, which tend to sleep under cars to take shelter. “Gem for the voiceless society, man in million,” posted an Instagram user. “Thank you for being so kind,” said another. Another Instagram user said, “A 20-30 seconds break after starting the engine can save a life.”
Ratan Tata’s love for animals is not newfound. Earlier, he invested in the start-up 'Motopaws', which produces glowing collars for dogs so people can spot them in the dark and avoid running over them
The start-up 'Motopaws' was founded by Ratan Tata’s assistant Shantanu Naidu. The two share a close bond and Shantanu fondly refers to Ratan Tata as ‘Millennial Dumbledore’
In 2014, automobile design engineer Shantanu joined Tata Elxsi. Few days later, he saw a dog being killed in a road accident. Moved by the incident, he decided to begin an initiative to create glow-in-the-dark collars especially for street dogs to make them visible to drivers at night
When Shantanu ran out of funds, he sought Ratan Tata’s help. Out of his compassion for the animals, Ratan Tata visited the dog shelter himself and since then has been closely associated with the cause
Many Indian states are witnessing heavy rains due to the onset of monsoon. IMD has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai’s Colaba, Santacruz and Worli. In Delhi, IMD has predicted average temperature between 33 and 37 degrees Celsius
