Sudha Murty was recently awarded Padma Bhushan in the presence of her daughter Akshata Murthy, who is also the UK First Lady, wife of UK PM Rishi Sunak, husband and Infosys founder NR Narayana Murthy, and son Rohan Murthy. She recounted some of her life experiences during the The Kapil Sharma Show

Sudha Murty’s life anecdotes

As mentioned in her book ‘Three Thousand Stitches’, Sudha Murty recalled the incident when she was referred to as ‘cattle-class’ by some foreigners when she was travelling in business class. Two women at London’s Heathrow International Airport asked her to move aside from the queue for business class. Looking at Sudha’s simple attire of a salwar kameez, they thought that she would be unable to afford the ticket. Hours later, Sudha met these women again at an event, where she was invited as a Chief Guest and a speaker

Sudha Murty criticised the mentality that equates class with the amount of money a person has, and cited examples of people like mathematician Manjul Bhargava and Mother Teresa, whom she considers to be "class people"

"Once when I had gone, they asked me my residential address. 'Where are you staying in London?' My elder sister was with me and I thought, should I write '10 Downing Street'. My son also lives there (in the UK), but I didn't remember his complete address. But I finally wrote 10 Downing Street," Murty narrated on the popular show. “That fellow (the immigration officer) looked at me and said, ‘Are you joking?!’” she recalled. 10 Downing Street is the official residence of UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, who is her son-in-law
