Sudipto Sen's film 'The Kerala Story', featuring Adah Sharma, received backlash for claiming more than 32,000 Kerala women had allegedly been radicalised by Islamic fundamentalists.
'The Kerala Story' found both support and criticism from different parts of the country. Some have made it tax-free and some have imposed an outright ban.
Following the release of the film, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee ordered an immediate ban on the screening of the film in the state to avoid "any incident of hatred and violence".
UP CM Yogi Adityanath took to Twitter to announce that the film will be made tax-free in the state. Yogi Adityanath and his entire cabinet are expected to have a special screening of the film on Friday.
Meanwhile, multiplex theatres in Tamil Nadu have halted the screenings of The Kerala Story from (Sunday), as a "precautionary measure" to maintain law and order in the state
The BJP-ruled Madhya Pradesh has made the made film tax-free. “While we have already brought a law against (forced) conversion, the film creates awareness about the issue," said MP CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan .
Uttarakhand's CM Pushkar Singh Dhami on Tuesday said that the film depicts the 'truth' and everyone must watch it.
On Tuesday, Union Minister Giriraj Singh urged Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to declare the film 'The Kerala Story' tax-free in Bihar. It remains to be seen if Bihar become the next state to declare the film tax-free.
Amidst all the controversies surrounding the film, it managed to surpass the Rs 50 crore milestone at the Indian box office, five days after it hit the theatres and is showing no signs of abating.
