In the Anakapalli district of Andhra Pradesh, a councillor hit himself with a slipper due to the frustration of not being able to fulfil his poll promises.
The 40-year-old councillor, Mulaparthi Ramaraju alleged that the civic body officials ignored his issues and although he tried his best, he failed to fulfil any of his poll promises. Due to this he started hitting himself with a slipper during the civic body meeting. Ramaraju is the councillor of Ward 20 in the Narsipatnam Municipality of Anakapalli.
Ramaraju told PTI, “It has been 31 months since I have been elected as a councillor but I am unable to solve civic issues like drainage, power, sanitation, roads and other problems in my ward.”

While speaking at the civic body meeting, Ramaraju also said that it is better to die at the meeting as his electors kept asking him to execute the unfinished work he promised at the time of voting.
Councillor Ramaraju makes a living by driving an auto-rickshaw in Narsipatnam. He said that despite using all channels, he is unable to get a water connection for his voters.
Ramaraju won the civic body polls in 2021 with the backing of Telugu Desam Party (TDP). In a dig at the ruling party YSR Congress, TDP also posted the video on their Twitter handle as they wrote, “Mulaparthi Ramaraju is the tribal representative of Lingapuram village who won on behalf of the Telugu Desam Party. Even after being in office, he has not been able to install a single tap in the village for 30 months.”
One user commented on the post of TDP, “Very honest councillor but troubled by the functioning of the government. The solution will be found soon if not today or tomorrow.”
While another user appreciated his honesty and wrote, “All corporators, MLAs and party chiefs should be like this.”
Even in 2021, the TDP had shared a post about Ramaraju. The caption read, “After completing his Bachelors Degree in Arts, Ramaraju drove an auto-rickshaw to make ends meet. He was known for his good-hearted nature. Many times he would refuse to take money from elderly people, pregnant women and those who were facing tough times in their lives.”
