Swades star Gayatri Joshi and husband Vikas Oberoi, Chairman and Managing Director of Oberoi Realty Ltd, met with an accident during their Italy trip. While the couple survived, two other people died in the accident involving two supercars.
Former actress Gayatri Joshi confirmed the news of the accident to the Free Press Journal by saying, “Vikas and I are in Italy. We met with an accident here (multiple-car collision). With God’s grace, we both are absolutely fine.”
A footage of the accident has surfaced on social media, in which multiple supercars are travelling behind each other on the road. Gayatri Joshi and her husband Vikas Oberoi were reportedly in a blue Lamborghini driving with other supercars. Suddenly, the Lamborghini and another red Ferrari tried to overtake a van camper at the same time. The Lamborghini crashed into the camper while the Ferrari crashed into Oberoi’s car.
The red Ferrari overturned after crashing into the Lamborghini killing the couple sitting inside. According to Gayatri Joshi, the red Ferrari was being driven by a senior Swiss couple. Markus Krautli, 67, and Melissa Krautli, 63, had reportedly rented the supercar.
Lorenzo Muscarin, 62, was driving the van camper. He told the local media, “We were lying sideways in our seats. For a moment we were silent in disbelief. Then I looked into my wife's eyes and asked her if she was okay. She nodded.”
Vikas Oberoi and his wife Gayatri Joshi and the Swiss couple were all part of the Sardinia Supercar Experience, where luxury cars parade from Teulada to Olbia, showcasing their high-end vehicles. The Sardinia Supercar Tour can last for as long as 6 days, where the drivers cover around 1050 kilometres of winding roads with scenic views. The package of the Sardinia Supercar Tour costs around Rs 15 lakh excluding the visa and flight expenses.
The police have confiscated all three vehicles and are also examining the footage, which has been shared on social media. So far, no charges have been issued against Vikas Oberoi and Gayatri Joshi.
Vikas Oberoi is the Chairman and Managing Director of Oberoi Realty Ltd known for its high-end apartments. He also owns a 5-star Westin hotel in Mumbai. Oberoi is also building Mumbai's first Ritz-Carlton hotel and residences. Apart from these, he is also involved in the construction of malls and office towers. Oberoi’s net worth is $3.8 billion, as per Forbes. He married actress and former Miss India participant Gayatri Joshi in 2005.
Gayatri Joshi was born in Nagpur and began her career as a video jockey. She then went on to pursue her goal of winning Femina India beauty pageant winner and participated in Femina Miss India in 1999. She won Miss India International 2000 and went on to represent India at the Miss International 2000 beauty pageant in Japan. Later, she starred in Ashutosh Gowariker’s 2004 movie 'Swades' opposite Shah Rukh Khan. She left her Bollywood career and got married to Vikas Oberoi.
