Netflix's latest series 'You Are What You Eat: A Twin Experiment' is a documentary based on an experiment done on identical twins who were asked to pick either a plant-based diet or an omnivorous diet for eight weeks and study the impact of different foods on their body.
A plant-based diet is a diet consisting mostly or entirely of plant-based foods. It usually includes no or minimal animal products including milk and milk products. Though, almond milk can be taken as a substitute to cow, buffalo or goat milk.
Fibre-rich plant products such as vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes, nuts and seeds. Strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, tomatoes, carrots, cucumbers, apricots, sweet potatoes, eggplant, lemons, lettuce, green beans, kale, broccoli, Brussels sprout, cabbage, spinach, corn, onions, cauliflower, cherries, bananas, mushrooms, parsnips and turnips are also some of the popular food choices.
– Helps maintain healthy weight – Strengthens immune system – Reduces inflammation – Reduces risk of cancer and heart disease
– Possible deficiency of Vitamin B12, Iron, Calcium, Vitamin D, Omega-3s – May increase dependency on unnatural supplements
As the name suggests, this diet involves consuming both animals and plants. It includes a wider range of food sources, such as fungi, algae, and certain microorganisms.
It provides Vitamin B12 in abundance and one can enjoy wholesome benefits of a diet that includes both plant and animal-based products. At the same time, it is not a nature-friendly diet as it may lead to an increase in dependence on animal-based food. It may also cause higher risk of heart disease and cholesterol.
