Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh tied the knot in the Konkani tradition in Lombardy, Italy on the shores of the picturesque Lake Como. This is where Mukesh Ambani's daughter Isha Ambani and Anand Piramal also got engaged recently. The area around the villa was locked down amid high security for the nuptials. The lake
Lake Como surrounds the Villa del Balbianello where the ceremony was held. It has served as a popular retreat for the rich and the famous with many of them owning villas on its shores.
The Villa
The villa was decked up with white roses. The mandap was decorated with white roses as well, by florists from Florence. Villa del Balbianello overlooks Lake Como. It is considered the most exclusive wedding venue on Lake Como and is famous for its terraced gardens. A number of feature films have been shot in these surroundings including Casino Royale (2006), Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones.
The ceremony
They were married in a four-hour-long Konkani Brahmin ritual. Deepika is said to have worn a red and gold saree for the ceremony. They had officially exchanged rings on November 13 as per Konkani tradition. The two have hired the same wedding-photographer who captured Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma's Italian wedding
Security
Security guards on motorboats circumnavigated the area to keep reporters away. It was a strictly private event, with the bride and groom using black umbrellas for more privacy.
Guests
There were only around 30-40 guests at the wedding. The guests arrived in batches of 8-10 per boat and made their way to the beautifully decorated villa. They were requested not to click photos and keep the ceremony a private affair. Shahrukh Khan, Farah Khan and Sanjay Leela Bhansali were among those invited from the film fraternity
The resort
The couple and most of the guests are staying at the lavish Castadiva Hotel some 30 kilometers by road from the villa. After the ceremony was over a beautiful vintage EURO 500,000 Riva Tritone vintage boat arrived to take the couple back to the luxurious Castadiva resort where they are staying.
