Besides his positions at HCL Technologies and Sampark Foundation, Vineet Nayar is also known as the author of Employees First, Customers Second: Turning Conventional Management Upside Down” (Harvard Business Press, June 2010). The book has received rich praise from influencers such as the late C.K. Prahalad, Tom Peters, Gary Hamel and Ram Charan. Nayar shaped HCL’s transformation from a $700-million company in 2005 into a $4.7-billion global technology services giant, with more than 85,000 employees in 32 countries. He joined HCL in 1985, after earning his MBA from XLRI. In 2005, he became its president, and served its CEO from 2007 until January 2013. During these years, company revenues and market cap grew six times. HCL won recognition for being a democratic workplace and an excellent employer. Last year, Fortune magazine named Nayar on its first global executive dream team. In 2004, he established Sampark Foundation, which aims to transform the lives of children, youth, and adults through education, social entrepreneurship and livelihoods. He spends his spare time reading and writing on management strategy.
