Coronavirus outbreak: Who have made highest donations?

Tata Trusts and Tata Sons have combined committed Rs 1,500 crore towards coronavirus relief work. Chairman of Tata Trusts, Ratan Tata committed Rs 500 crore towards manufacturing of personal protective equipment, respiratory systems, testing kits and setting up modular treatment facilities and training of health workers. Following which, Tata Sons announced an additional Rs 1,000 crore support towards coronavirus fund. This is by far the biggest contribution by a business group in India. Out of the total fund, Rs 500 crore has been contributed towards PM-CARES fund.

Philanthropist Azim Premji's companies Wipro Ltd, Wipro Enterprises Ltd and Azim Premji Foundation, have together committed Rs 1,125 crore. Of the Rs 1,125 crore, Wipro Ltd's commitment is Rs 100 crore, Wipro Enterprises Ltd's is Rs 25 crore, and that of the Azim Premji Foundation is Rs 1,000 crore. These sums are in addition to the annual CSR activities of Wipro, and the usual philanthropic spends of the Azim Premji Foundation.

Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries (RIL) has donated Rs 510 crore to the coronavirus relief work. This includes contribution of Rs 500 crore to the PM-CARES Fund and Rs. 5 crore each to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund of Maharashtra and Gujarat. RIL has also setup a 100-bed centre for COVID-19 patients at a hospital in Mumbai.

Aditya Birla Group has allocated Rs 500 crore towards the fight against coronavirus. Out of this, Rs 400 crore has been deposited in PM-CARES fund. The group has also activated a 100-bed COVID-19 facility in Mumbai in partnership with BMC. Across seven locations namely, Ujjain, Pune, Hazaribagh, Rayagada, Solapur and Kharach, more than 200-beds have been earmarked for coronavirus affected patients. Aditya Birla Group will also be supporting with supply of 1 million N95 masks,1 million triple layer surgical masks, 2,80,000 PPE and ventilators.

Coal India Limited has contributed Rs 220 crore toward coronavirus relief effort.

Radhakrishan Damani, promoter of Avenue Supermarts, which owns retail brand D-Mart, has donated Rs 155 crore for the fight against coronavirus. While Rs 100 crore was donated to the PM-CARES Fund, remaining Rs 55 crore was committed towards various state relief funds. Maharashtra and Gujarat received Rs 10 crore each, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Rajasthan, and Punjab received Rs 5 crore each of the total Rs 55 crore given to the relief funds of the state governments. Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh received Rs 2.5 crore each. The donation was made by Radhakrishan Damani through group company Bright Star Investments.

Engineering and construction conglomerate Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has committed to donate Rs 150 crore to the relief fund announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The company said it is committed to participate in corporate India's response through funds, community welfare plans and leveraging its expertise to offer assistance. Besides, the company has set aside a fund of over Rs 500 crore per month to support about 1.6 lakh contract workers by continuing to pay their wages during the ongoing lockdown and provide them with food and basic amenities.

Financial services conglomerate HDFC Group also committed Rs 150 crore to the PM CARES fund. The amount will go towards the government's relief and rehabilitation measures.

ITC has set up Contingency Fund of Rs 150 crore to address and manage the challenges arising from the Covid-19 endemic. The fund will be utilised to provide relief to the vulnerable and most needy sections of society.
