Head out to Nepal to walk the greatest mountain range on earth in great style and, yes, great luxury too
When Australian trekker and mountaineer Robin Boustead first thought of the idea he was laughed at. A 1,700 km trail stretching across the length of Nepal, along the crest of the Great Himalayan Range which would take about 157 days to complete and cost some 20,000 (Rs 14.7 lakh)? Who'd want to do such a thing? Boustead thought otherwise and after a decade of meticulous research, and establishing contacts with the best adventure travel companies and the world's leading mountaineers and Sherpas, Boustead's dream came true early this year. Don't worry, this does not mean you have to spend over three months on the trail! The walk has been broken down into 10 sections, each lasting between 18 to 25 days, with all-inclusive packages from Rs 1.4 lakh to Rs 3.5 lakh depending on the length of the section. The cost includes all amenities, including the most luxurious tented accommodation possible, star mountaineers as guides, and a team of crack Sherpas looking after you.

Turin
Turin is definitely the place to be, as the venue for Esperienza Italia, a nine-month celebration of the 150th year of the founding of the Italian state. Discover this magical city of the Alps, dotted with sumptuous baroque palaces and art nouveau mansions, surrounded by rolling green hills and the distant snow-peaks. It is also the centre of mouth-watering Piedmontese cuisine and shaded arcades housing swanky fashion boutiques and aperitif bars.

Turku
Europe's prestigious Centre of Culture for 2011, this compact and fun-loving former Finnish capital is getting ready to party. Not that it has ever stopped. A lively city, with the river Aura a hub for floating bars and restaurants, along with beautiful medieval buildings and the nearby fjords, Turku's the city you'd never thought you'd want to visit. During the long sunless winter nights, Turku parties for some six months, which includes downing some of the whackiest cocktails . What's not to like?
