VAV Life Sciences stands for cutting edge R&D

The company has tied up with some 100 medical and educational institutions, including BITS Pilani and Punjab University, for research and to work on innovative products.

Arun Kedia, Founder and Managing Director, VAV Life Sciences, believes in cutting edge research and development (R&D). His company, launched in 2003, manufactures and supplies pharmaceuticals ingredients, food ingredients and nutritional supplements to clients across the globe. "The basket of products we have chosen is a cross between ayurveda and allopathy," says Kedia.

The company, apart from its own research facility, has also tied up with  medical institutions and colleges to launch innovative products.

"We discovered that there is a lot of spare manufacturing capacity available in India and a lot of spare R&D capacity as well," says Kedia, adding that the company works with several institutions such as BITS Pilani, Punjab University and NIPER, for its research activities and reaches out to about 100 institutions across the country.

VAV's products are primarily used in topical medicine and cosmetics (medication applied to body surfaces such as the skin or mucous membranes).

Almost 90 per cent of VAV's business comes from the international market and about 57 per cent is from Europe alone. It currently serves over 40 customers across the world. "One of the challenges in innovation can be that you can be too far ahead of your time, and it's always a question to successfully market," sums up Kedia.
