Largest cleanliness survey
The Swachh Survekshan survey covered 4,200 cities with population of more than 40 crore. The survey was conducted from January 4 to March 10, 2018. In 2017, Swachh Survekshan was conducted in 434 cities. The complete list of the top 10 clean cities is yet to be released by Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM), the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs said.

Indore: Cleanest city
Indore was voted as the cleanest city, followed by Bhopal and Chandigarh in the cleanliness survey. Indore was the cleanest city in 2017 too. In 2016 the city was on the 25th spot. Indore Municipal Corporation claims to have achieved 100% segregation of wet and dry garbage at source.
Madhya Pradesh capital Bhopal is second this year, the same position it occupied in the 2017 survey. Chandigarh clinched the third cleanest position, up from Rank 11 in 2017.

Jharkhand: Best performing state
Jharkhand has been adjudged the best-performing state in the survey, followed by Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh.
Besides, capital Ranchi was also named as the best state capital; Giridih was crowned as the best city in the one-three lakh population range in terms of citizen feedback on their daily experiences.
Bundu, in the Ranchi district, became East Zone's cleanest city among those with a population below a lakh.
Pakur got East Zone's best city for innovation and best practices among those with a population of more than a lakh. In the same bracket, Chaibasa topped East Zone in solid waste management.

Cleanest State Capital: Greater Mumbai
Mumbai has been ranked first among all state capitals. Greater Mumbai, which was on the 29th spot last year, was named as the 'cleanest State capital/UT' in the country. Navi Mumbai also won the award for best solid waste management. It was 8th in the Swacch Surveskshan 2017.

Mysuru: Best in waste management  
Mysuru, which is a pioneer in waste management, has been ranked the cleanest medium-sized city, that is in the 3-10 lakh population bracket. Mysuru was adjudged the cleanest city in India in 2015 and 2016, but dropped to fifth place in the overall ranking in 2017.
At present, Mysuru treats close to 60 tonnes of wet waste and 90 tonnes of dry waste every day through a decentralised waste management system, and 85 per cent of the city is segregating its waste.

Cleanest Cities in India: Zone-Wise
Kakching in Manipur was declared as the cleanest town (urban) in the North-East under the survey. Of the four categories of awards for North East zone, two were bagged by Manipur. In the Best Innovation and Best Practise category, Biate in Mizoram topped, while the Best City on Solid Waste Management (North-East) went to Rangpo town in Sikkim.

Ghaziabad: Fastest mover big city
Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad was adjudged the "fastest mover big city" in this survey. Ghaziabad improved its cleanliness ranking from 351 to 36 in the category of more than 1 million population

Lutyens' Delhi: Cleanest in small urban category
Lutyens' Delhi was ranked as the cleanest municipal area among small urban local bodies having 1-3 lakh population. In 2017, the New Delhi Municipal Council, which covers Lutyens' Delhi, had stood seventh.

Tamil Nadu loses swachh plot
None of the cities in Tamil Nadu ranked in the Swachh Survekshan 2018. Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC), which produced a dismal ranking in 2017, missed out completely this year, while other major cities such as Mumbai and Hyderabad posted gains.
