A nation's military might goes a long way in establishing its status in the world. The Global Firepower ranking has utilised 50 individual factors to determine a nation's PowerIndex score. The categories considered range from military might and financials to logistical capability and geography.
Note: Smaller the PwrIndex value, the more powerful the nation's theoretical capability is (by conventional means as nuclear capability is not taken into account).

10. Pakistan
Pakistan managed to grab tenth position in the top 10 list. Its PwrIndx score is 0.2073. Its military has been very strong and active, playing a key role in South Asian affairs over the years.
9. Brazil
Brazil came at number nine position. Its total PwrIndx score stands 0.2026. It has the largest force in Latin America by military equipment.
8. United Kingdom
The United Kingdom is at number eight position. And its total PwrIndx score stands at 0.1997
7. France
France is at number seven position with PwrIndx score at 0.1681.
6. South Korea
South Korea is ranked sixth with a PwrIndx score of 0.1612.
5. Japan
Japan grabbed the fifth spot in the top 10 most powerful militaries of the world in 2021. It's PwrIndx* score stands at 0.1599.
4- India
India is at number fourth position with PwrIndx score of 0.1207. It has a defence budget of US $65.7 bn.
3. China
China is ranked third with PwrIndx score of 0.0854. It increased its defence budget in March to US $209 bn. It has had growing tensions with US and India of late.This is the first time China has hiked its military budget to more than $200 bn. The latest increase is more than 3 times higher than India's latest budget.
2. Russia
Russia is ranked second out of 140 countries. It holds a PwrIndx score of 0.0791. In 2019, the military comprised almost one million active-duty personnel. It also has a huge army of reserve troops.
1. United States
The United States is ranked first of 140 out of the countries considered. It holds a PwrIndx score of 0.0718 (a score of 0.0000 is considered 'perfect') in 2021. It is perceived to be the most powerful country in the world.
