Total receipts of the government have fallen by 41.7 per cent during April-July 2020 compared with the corresponding period last year. The receipts from disinvestments so far have been only Rs 2.9 crore compared with a target of Rs 2.1 lakh crore for 2020-21.

Total expenditure has seen 11.3 per cent increase during April-July 2020 (year-on-year) owing to a broad-base increase in both revenue and capital expenditure.

The revenue deficit during April-July 2020 was at Rs 4.57 lakh crore. There has been a 56.4 per cent increase in revenue deficit compared to last year same period.

Fiscal deficit during April-July 2020 was at Rs 8.2 lakh crore. The fiscal deficit of the Central government has surpassed the budgeted number for the full year by 3 per cent.

Tax revenues have declined by almost 30 per cent during the four months of FY21 compared to same period last year. This shortfall in revenue can be ascribed to low economic activity due to coronavirus lockdowns.
