Indian Railways' (IR) freight traffic rose 39.1 per cent Y-o-Y in May 2021. IR carried 114,870 thousand tonnes of freight during the month as compared to 82,580 thousand tonnes carried in May 2020.
Coal was among the major commodities which witnessed an increase during the month, registering a 48.5 per cent growth.
Pig iron and finished steel saw a 46 per cent increase in traffic in May 2021 as compared to May 2020.
Iron ore railway freight traffic grew 68.5 per cent in May 2021 on Y-o-Y basis.
Cement freight traffic rose 15 per cent in May 2021.
