India's coal production was 7.8 per cent higher at 46.8 million tonnes in April 2021 compared with April 2020.
India's coal dispatch was 41.3 per cent higher than that of April 2020. Total coal dispatches to power sector were 10.5 per cent lower at 47 mt in April.
Coal-based thermal power generation fell 2.9 per cent m-o-m in April 2021 despite peak-summer season demand.
Offtake of coal from all user industries like power, steel, and cement remained weak during the month. Steel production increased 152 per cent on a y-o-y basis.
Output of steel, cement, and DRI sectors witnessed double-digit fall during April 2021 as against March 2021. It has grown yearly by 548 per cent during the month.
