Switzerland retained the title of the world's most innovative country in the Global Innovative Index (GII) 2019. Switzerland got a score of 67.2 and has retained its top position in the list for nine consecutive years since 2011.
Sweden was ranked second in the Global Innovation Index 2019 with 63.7 points. It has held this position six times so far.
The United States of America ranked third with a score of 61.73 points in the Global Innovative Index 2019. The Unites States has gained three spots since 2018 when it was on the sixth spot.
Netherlands ranked fourth in GII 2019. Netherlands obtained a score of 61.44 points. Last year, Netherlands was on the second position in the list.
The United Kingdom was ranked fifth in the GII 2019 list. As per the report, UK maintains its lead in the quality of scientific publications and remains strong in indicators, such as school life expectancy, the quality of its universities, government's online service, environmental performance, venture capital deals, computer software spending, and cultural and creative services exports.
Finland has ranked sixth in the Global Innovative Index 2019. It scored 59.83 points. Finland remains a world leader in a number of important innovation metrics, such as patent, school life expectancy, and ease of resolving insolvency.
Denmark ranked seventh in the GII 2019 report. Denmark scored 58.44 points and has gained a position since last year. Denmark ranked in the top 3 in a number of indicators, such as scientific and technical articles (1st), researchers (2nd) and environmental performance (3rd).
Singapore is placed eighth with 58.37 points. Back In 2018, Singapore was ranked fifth in the Global Innovation Index.
Germany is ranked ninth for the third consecutive year with the score of 58.19 points. Germany improved its performance in human capital and research, infrastructure, and business sophistication.
Israel entered the top 10 most innovative economies in the world for the first time in 2019 with a score of 58.19. It replaced Ireland.
China ranked 14th in the GII 2019 list. China has gained 3 places since 2018 and has maintained its position among the top 20 countries.
India has secured 52nd rank, gaining five places since 2018. Back in 2016, India was ranked 66 and in 2017, it was ranked 60th.
Pakistan was the 105th country out of the 129 countries in the GII 2019 list. Since 2018, Pakistan has gained 4 places in the global innovation index.
